Institute faculty member, Dr. April Zeoli and Institute postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Stephen Oliphant, will serve as a panelists on a joint webinar hosted by The Joyce Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation on December 3 at 12:00 p.m. EST.

Webinar Title: Gun Violence and Intimate Partner Violence: A Review of the Literature and Where We Stand

Webinar Description: In 2024, the MacArthur Foundation commissioned research to better understand the intersection of intimate partner violence (IPV) and firearms violence. Historically, these two topics have often been separate in areas such as funding, research, prevention, and intervention efforts. While recent attention has focused more on the overlap between firearms and IPV – especially in relation to policy – there remains less emphasis on how current policies may be less effective for Black women and other people of color, non-policy approaches, policies addressing social determinants of health, and community-driven interventions. In this webinar, researchers will discuss a paper produced for the MacArthur Foundation that reviews existing literature and digs into gaps in our collective understanding through interviews with over a dozen funders, academics, and community leaders with expertise in this area. In addition, researchers will discuss a report that summarizes and analyzes state and federal statutes to restrict and remove firearms from perpetrators of intimate partner violence. This discussion is part of the Joyce Foundation’s monthly virtual Lunch & Learn webinar series. All the webinars in this series are free and open to the public.
