Several schools in Muskegon County piloted a program over the last year seeking to prevent youth gun violence.
After seeing success, the SafER Teens one-on-one mentoring program will continue for another year at Muskegon High School, Orchard View High School and Middle School and for high schoolers at the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System.
Trinity Health Muskegon was awarded $318,812 from the Michigan State Police, through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program, for gun violence prevention in the county.
