Michigan Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Dashboard

Community Violence Intervention (CVI) is broadly defined by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) as “an approach that uses evidence-informed strategies to reduce violence through tailored community-centered initiatives” and multidisciplinary strategies that “engage individuals and groups to prevent and disrupt cycles of violence and retaliation, and establish relationships between individuals and community assets to deliver services that save lives, address trauma, provide opportunity, and improve the physical, social, and economic conditions that drive violence.” The Byrne SCIP CVI Dashboard is an interactive, searchable catalog of community violence intervention (CVI) programs across Michigan.

For inclusion in the dashboard, the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP) used a broader practical criterion: organizations were included if they publicly self-identified as providing CVI, regardless of their size or service focus. As such, organizations providing crisis support, suicide prevention, and mental health services were also included.

Michigan Byrne SCIP IFIP team members identified programs by reviewing publicly available sources, including organizational and government websites, reports, and news coverage. The dashboard is not a comprehensive list of CVI programs operating in Michigan. It includes only programs the team was able to identify through publicly available information at the time of review. Inclusion does not indicate that a program meets every element of the BJA definition, nor does it constitute endorsement by MSP, IFIP, or the University of Michigan. IFIP has not independently evaluated the effectiveness of the programs listed. Program information will be reviewed and updated annually or as needed.
