Dr. Paruk is a Research Investigator at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention. She earned her masters in public health from Boston University and her PhD in criminal justice from Michigan State University. She recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship with the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers University.
Dr. Paruk’s overall research goal is to help firearm owners and their families minimize the potential for firearm injury during moments of crisis or elevated risk. Her research explores the spectrum of strategies for reducing firearm access, from secure storage practices to voluntary and temporary out-of-home storage and extreme risk protection orders. She currently works with the Michigan Firearm Law Implementation program.
